More than 300 thousand residents and guests of Primorye visited Pollock Food Festival "O!Mega Taste"

06/09/2023
Pollock Food Festival "O!Mega Taste” had taken place from the 15th of May to the 4th of June in Primorsky Krai. 30 cafes and restaurants of Primorsky Krai, Khabarovsk, Kamchatka, and Buryatia took part in the project. Within the days of the festival more than 300 thousand residents and guests of Primorye visited the event; restaurant chefs had been cooking more than 30 thousand pollock viands.

Russian Fishery Company (RFC), Gastronomic Map of Russia and Tourist Information Center of Primorsky Krai (TIC) performed as the event planners of "O!Mega Taste” Pollock Food Festival. The festival was supported by the Government of Primorsky Krai. The event was divided into two parts — restaurant and street ones.

"Healthy Eating" Project of Rospotrebnadzor (Russian Federal State Agency for Health and Consumer Rights), RYBNY SOYUZ (Fish Union), ROSKACHESTVO (Russian Quality System) within the context of promoting fish products and supporting "Russian Fish" Project, FSA (Fishery Shipowners Association) and PCA (Pollock Catchers Association) were the Pollok Festival partners.

Russian Fishery Company had provided 10 tons of ultra-processed food — pollock fillet — for master-dish cooking process within the days of the festival. For two weeks the chefs had been surprising visitors with master-dishes made of white wild fish. Special festival menu included 3-5 signature pollock dishes from each participating restaurant. The chefs had rediscovered unexplored flavors of healthy wild fish, and the guests thanked them with their attention to the Far Eastern cuisine. The guests were astonished with the variety of menu dishes — from salads and appetizers to pastries and desserts — and chefs’ creative approach.

Also, a fine dining supper party of three legendary Far Eastern Chefs was held in MILLIONKA restaurant, as part of the project, and this event attracted great attention. High-class Chefs — Alexander Kazakevich (MILLIONKA), Vladimir Kozhevin (CANTINA) and Egor Anisimov (ZUMA) — had teamed up to reveal for guests the taste of "unknown" pollock and surprised them with six bold and exotic pollock master-dishes.

The restaurant part of the festival was followed with a street carnival, which took place from the 25th to the 28th of May on Sportivnaya Harbour Embankment in Vladivostok. The restaurants presented street versions of pollock dishes at the food court. The best Far Eastern chefs had been giving 14 master classes for cooking dishes of the Far Eastern signature cuisine at special court all four days of the festival program.

In addition, regional retail store chains held sampling of pollock products, including crab sticks within al the days of the festival.

Pollock is a unique food — natural and ecologically clean. Pollock is easy to cook and it can acquire new flavors as a mono-product as well as in combo with other kinds of food. Pollock Food Festival was primarily aimed at contributing to popularity of pollock food products and healthy cooking, developing domestic gourmet tourism as well as promoting the Far Eastern signature regional cuisine.

«Our company, as a leader in the fishing industry, is investing heavily in the culture of consuming healthy food products with unique qualities. Pollock is natural, ecologically clean, tasty and healthy, but unfortunately an underestimated product. I hope the festival has rediscovered our beautiful wild white fish. "O!Mega Taste" Festival of this year is just the first step, the first sign for widening festival platform and marching across the country to make beautiful wild white fish popular all over Russia»

Olga Naumova, General Director of Russian Fishery Company.

«Fish should be in everyone's menu, it's hard to imagine a complete and balanced diet without it. This is one of the important rules that we set forward under the "Healthy Eating" Project of Rospotrebnadzor as well as under the national project "Demography". However, there is a myth that fish is not available for the common consumer. Pollock denies this belief. It is an excellent example of a product that is traditionally caught in Russia; this fish is budget-priced and contains a lot of vitamins, microelements and lean fats. The Pollock Festival "O!Mega Taste" makes this healthy and tasty fish popular, and it helps to draw consumers' attention to pollock and gives reasons to include it in the diet more often»

Ekaterina Golovkova, Rospotrebnadzor Expert and Information Supervisor of Rospotrebnadzor "Healthy Eating"

Official websites of "O!Mega Taste" Festival, Russian Fishery Company and “Healthy Eating” Project present a lot of healthy and challenging recipes that can rediscover pollock for consumers.
