Fisherman's Profession.RF (Профессия рыбака.РФ) shapes the future of Russian seas
February 13, 2024. The Federal Agency for Fishery (FAR) and the Russian Fishery Company (RFC) have announced the launch of the Program for the Development and Promotion of the Fisherman's Profession. As part of the project, the professional community and industry-specific universities is invited to compete for the best title concept for the Program.
The Program aims to form an entirely new attitude to fishing as a job and promote professions necessary for work at sea. The execution of the action plan involves several activities that will improve the public's knowledge about the fisherman's profession. One of these activities is a competition for the best title for the Program for the Development and Promotion of the Fisherman's Profession. The primary goal of the competition is to introduce and engage young people in the profession, as well as to support existing fishing dynasties.
Fishing is one of the most enduring traditional professions, with a long history. The best customs in fishing are passed down from generation to generation, creating entire dynasties and shaping values. Today this profession is reaching a new level - safe automated workplaces, innovative technologies used in catching and processing fish, stable high salaries.
"We are currently introducing the most up-to-date standards and specializations. And of course, education has become more engaging. Most importantly, it is now more sought-after. Approximately 80% of graduates pursue careers in their field of study. The wage level in the fishing industry is among the highest. A lot depends on our trainees' and students' skills and aspirations to grow. Employers have a high demand for skilled professionals. Therefore, the only way to go is forward," said FAR head Ilya Shestakov.
"Russian fishing companies are making a great contribution to the development of the industry and national product security. Each of us is shaping the future of fishing by improving the profession and adding something new," said Olga Naumova, General Director of the Russian Fishery Company. "The RFC focuses on making the profession more appreciated, as we know how hard it is to work at see. To achieve this, the company is investing in a new fleet, creating favorable conditions to attract and retain top talent, and consistently working together with industry universities".
To participate in the Competition, it is necessary to submit an application at Profession of Fisherman.RF
Participants need to create a title that will emphasize the prestige of the fisherman's profession and its history, traditions, and promising future. The title needs to be accompanied by a backstory, explaining why it is a good fit for the program. The best title will become associated with the Program, and the top 10 best titles will be used in public materials.
Competition timeline:
February 15 to March 15, 2024 — Accepting applications.
